Referral based care
Wellness Vet provides referral‑based care for dogs who remain under the clinical supervision of their primary veterinary surgeon and are referred for a specific, defined area of support.
This pathway is intended for professional colleagues seeking thoughtful veterinary input that complements existing care, without transferring overall clinical responsibility or creating unnecessary overlap.

The referral approach
Referral care at Wellness Vet is:
-
Clearly defined and time‑limited
-
Shaped around a specific referral aim
-
Respectful of existing veterinary and professional relationships
-
Supported by calm, proportionate communication
The role of Wellness Vet is supportive rather than supervisory, working alongside established care plans where appropriate.
Areas of referral support
Referral care may include:
-
Rehabilitation and recovery support
-
Pain‑related or mobility‑focused care within an established diagnosis
-
Behaviour‑adjacent welfare support where physical comfort or physiology may be contributory
-
Support for selected chronic health concerns, such as skin or gastrointestinal imbalance
-
Animal Health Certificate (AHC) provision for EU pet travel, offered as a stand‑alone professional service
Each referral is approached as a contained episode of care, with clear scope, defined entry points, and a planned conclusion.

Working together
Wellness Vet works alongside veterinary surgeons, behaviourists, physiotherapists, hydrotherapists, massage therapists, chiropractors, and other suitably qualified practitioners.
In collaborative cases:
-
The dog remains under the care of the primary veterinary surgeon
-
Each professional works within their own remit
-
Care is guided by a shared understanding of the referral aim and agreed scope
-
Any findings outside the referral focus are returned to the appropriate professional
This supports joined‑up, intentional care without escalation or duplication.
How referral care works
A referral is made by a professional colleague, outlining the clinical context and purpose of referral.
The dog is seen for a focused consultation within the agreed scope.
Where appropriate, a short course of sessions or defined support period is offered.
At completion, a concise written summary is shared and referral care concludes.

Referring a dog
Referral appointments are structured to be clear, purposeful, and proportionate.
Pricing reflects professional assessment, considered clinical input, and written communication.
Where a full clinical history and clear referral aim are provided, an adjusted assessment fee may be appropriate.
